He was about to marry a woman much younger than him… until his little grandson revealed a shocking truth that changed everything.

At 72, Thomas was certain he was about to begin a completely new chapter of his life.

He had decided to marry Evelyn, a woman considerably younger than him. The wedding was expected to be an important event, bringing together family members, close friends, and several of his business associates.

Everything had been carefully arranged.

The elegant venue was ready, the guests were beginning to arrive, and Thomas felt that, after so many difficult years, he had finally been given another chance at happiness.

But only minutes before he was supposed to walk down the aisle, something happened that changed everything.

His three-year-old grandson approached him, took his hand, and looked up at him.

“Grandpa… she hurt Mommy.”

Thomas froze.

The child was talking about Geneviève, his daughter.

And the woman Thomas was about to marry was Evelyn.

He tried to remain calm, but the boy’s words awakened a doubt he had been trying to ignore.

Thomas stepped away from the guests and went to the hotel’s business center. Before making a decision that could change the rest of his life, he needed answers.

Then he remembered something.

Before she disappeared, Geneviève had sent him a small USB drive.

Thomas pulled it out.

His hands trembled as he connected it to the computer.

A folder appeared on the screen.

The name immediately caught his attention:

EVELYN

Inside were photographs, documents, financial records, and several video files.

Thomas opened the most recent recording.

The camera showed the hallway of the building where Geneviève lived. The footage had been recorded the previous evening.

Geneviève appeared first.

She was holding several documents and looked extremely worried.

A few seconds later, Evelyn entered the frame.

The two women began arguing.

Even though the audio was unclear, Thomas could see the tension between them.

Geneviève raised one of the documents.

Evelyn tried to take it away from her.

Then she stepped closer.

Suddenly, Evelyn struck Geneviève across the face.

Thomas stared at the screen in disbelief.

He rewound the recording.

Then he watched it again.

And again.

He could hardly believe what he was seeing.

For months, he had heard an entirely different version of the story.

Evelyn had told him that Geneviève had become hostile because she could not accept their relationship. She had also claimed that her daughter was obsessed with money and constantly tried to create conflicts.

Thomas had believed her.

He had believed her so completely that he eventually distanced himself from his own daughter.

Now he was beginning to realize that he might have been manipulated.

He opened another recording.

This one had been made several weeks earlier.

Evelyn could be seen entering Geneviève’s apartment with a key.

Thomas frowned.

He had never known that Evelyn had access to his daughter’s home.

Evelyn walked straight to Geneviève’s office and began searching through documents.

Some appeared to concern Geneviève’s personal finances.

Others involved family properties and assets.

Then Thomas saw something that made his blood run cold.

One of the documents carried the logo of his own company:

Hale-Mercer Development.

The company he had spent his entire life building.

Evelyn was examining information related to investments, financial structures, and internal company decisions.

Why was she interested in those files?

Thomas stopped the video.

He remained alone in front of the computer, trying to make sense of everything.

Only minutes earlier, he had been wearing his wedding suit and looking forward to the ceremony.

Now he was no longer certain who the woman waiting for him at the altar really was.

At that moment, the door opened.

Sarah walked in.

She had been one of Geneviève’s closest friends since their university years.

Thomas immediately stood up.

“Where is my daughter?”

Sarah closed the door behind her.

“She’s safe.”

Thomas felt his heart begin to race.

“Where?”

“With me.”

Geneviève had disappeared the day before.

Her phone was no longer answering.

Evelyn had claimed that she had probably left town voluntarily in an attempt to ruin the wedding.

Thomas had almost accepted that explanation.

But now he was beginning to understand that the situation might be far more serious.

Sarah placed a thick folder on the desk.

“Geneviève discovered something.”

Thomas opened it.

Inside were financial records, professional correspondence, and documents showing unusual activity involving the family’s assets.

“What was she investigating?”

Sarah hesitated before answering.

“She was trying to find out who had access to certain confidential information.”

“And did she find anything?”

Sarah nodded.

“Several transactions appeared to be connected to companies whose true owners were difficult to identify.”

Thomas carefully examined the documents.

Suddenly, he looked up.

“Evelyn?”

Sarah remained silent for several seconds.

That hesitation was enough to make Thomas uneasy.

He returned to the video.

This time, he noticed something he had missed before.

Behind Evelyn, near the apartment door, stood a man.

Thomas enlarged the image.

The man’s face became clearer.

Thomas felt a knot form in his stomach.

It was Richard Hale.

His lawyer.

His business partner.

His friend of nearly forty years.

And, most importantly, the man who had introduced Evelyn to him.

Thomas could not take his eyes off the screen.

He remembered everything they had been through together.

Richard and Thomas had built the company from the ground up. They had survived economic crises, professional disputes, and some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

When Thomas’s wife died, Richard had been there for him.

Years later, Richard introduced him to Evelyn at a charity event.

At the time, Thomas had believed his old friend was simply trying to help him find happiness again.

Now he wondered whether that meeting had been planned long before.

His phone suddenly vibrated.

It was a message from Evelyn.

“Come to the ceremony immediately. If you don’t, everyone will discover what Geneviève has been hiding from you.”

Thomas read the message several times.

Sarah watched his expression.

“What does she mean?”

“I don’t know.”

Sarah slowly shook her head.

“Geneviève did know what was happening.”

She then pulled another photograph from the folder.

Thomas looked at it.

A woman appeared in the picture.

She was not Evelyn.

Her hair was darker, and she looked considerably younger.

But there was something strangely familiar about her eyes.

A name was written beneath the photograph:

Elaine Voss.

“Who is this woman?” Thomas asked.

Sarah explained that Geneviève had uncovered old records connected to that name.

Years earlier, a woman named Elaine Voss had worked for a wealthy real-estate investor who had been involved in an old financial scandal.

After several people connected to the case disappeared from public view, Elaine also vanished.

Geneviève suspected there could be a connection between that woman and Evelyn.

But she did not want to rely on suspicion alone.

She had searched for evidence.

Sarah placed another photograph on the desk.

Thomas picked it up.

And suddenly, he could barely breathe.

The photograph showed Richard when he was much younger, standing beside the same investor mentioned in the old records.

Thomas’s mouth went dry.

“Richard always told me he barely knew that man.”

Sarah said nothing.

She didn’t need to.

The photograph seemed to tell an entirely different story.

Thomas slowly sat down.

The wedding music was still playing in the room next door, but now it sounded as if it were coming from somewhere far away.

“How long had Geneviève been investigating this?”

“For several weeks.”

“Why didn’t she tell me?”

Sarah looked directly at him.

“She tried.”

Thomas lowered his eyes.

Suddenly, he remembered a visit from his daughter at his office.

Evelyn had been there too.

The two women had started arguing.

At the time, Evelyn had convinced him that Geneviève was simply trying to cause trouble.

Thomas had taken Evelyn’s side.

He had even scolded his own daughter.

Now the memory filled him with regret.

Sarah continued.

“She tried to warn you again.”

Thomas looked up.

“When?”

“During a dinner at your house.”

Thomas remembered.

Geneviève had mentioned some documents that worried her.

Evelyn had quickly turned the conversation into an argument.

Geneviève eventually left in anger.

Afterward, Evelyn had cried in Thomas’s arms.

She had sworn that she had never wanted his money.

At the time, he had comforted her.

Now he wondered whether those tears had been genuine.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.

Thomas and Sarah looked at each other.

Neither said a word.

The person knocked again.

This time, harder.

Thomas slowly stood up.

The ceremony was only minutes away.

Hundreds of guests were waiting in the ballroom.

Evelyn was probably already prepared to walk down the aisle.

But Thomas was no longer the same man who had entered that room minutes earlier.

He now understood that this wedding might never have been simply a love story.

There were confidential documents.

There were suspicious financial transactions that needed an explanation.

There was a mysterious identity from the past that seemed connected to Evelyn.

There was an old friend whose role was becoming increasingly suspicious.

And, most importantly, there was a daughter he had stopped listening to because he had chosen to trust the wrong person.

Thomas looked at Sarah.

“I want to see Geneviève.”

Sarah nodded.

“She’s waiting for you.”

Thomas slowly removed the white rose from his lapel.

He placed his phone on the table.

Then he opened the door.

He still did not know the whole truth.

He did not know what had really happened to his daughter.

He did not know how deep the connection between Evelyn and Richard went.

But he had made a decision.

He would not walk down the aisle until he discovered what was really happening to his family.

This time, he would listen to Geneviève.

And above all, he would verify every fact before trusting anyone again.

Because the truth he was about to uncover might not simply cancel a wedding.

It could reveal that the person he had trusted most for decades had been hiding something far bigger than he could ever have imagined.
