“Don’t cry, Abigail. I’m not leaving to get away from you. I’m doing all of this for our future.”
Brandon Vance spoke those words with almost perfect confidence.
At Salt Lake City International Airport, he was preparing to leave for what he described as a two-year work assignment in Canada. He talked about an exceptional contract, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and a more comfortable future for them both.
Abigail listened in silence.
Her eyes appeared to be full of tears.
But what Brandon didn’t know was that she already knew part of the truth.
And that truth had nothing to do with Canada.
For months, Brandon had been telling her that a foreign company had offered him the chance to oversee several projects in Vancouver. According to him, the temporary separation was necessary to secure their financial future.
Abigail had pretended to believe him.
Until three days earlier.
That night, Brandon had left his laptop open before going to take a shower. Abigail hadn’t been looking for anything in particular when a notification appeared on the screen.
She recognized the name immediately.
Clarissa Bennett.
Clarissa worked for the accounting firm that handled the affairs of Abigail’s Haven, the interior design company Abigail had spent years building.
That meant she had access to a great deal of administrative information about the business.
But the message Abigail had just seen looked nothing like a professional conversation.
It referred to Brandon’s departure and the need to create a certain impression for Abigail.
Then more messages appeared.
They mentioned a trip to London, a hotel reservation, and financial transactions Abigail had never authorized.
She stood completely still in front of the screen.

She could have woken Brandon up immediately.
She could have demanded an explanation.
But she did neither.
Instead, she gently closed the laptop and went to bed as if she had seen nothing.
The next morning, she began reviewing the documents she was legally allowed to access.
Some financial transactions did not match the explanations Brandon had given her.
The more she investigated, the more she understood that this went far beyond a simple affair.
A considerable amount of money was involved.
So Abigail took several precautions.
She secured the important documents, sought advice from a legal professional, and asked an independent investigator to verify certain information.
She also discovered that Clarissa planned to travel in the same direction as Brandon.
Suddenly, everything started to make much more sense.
Even so, Abigail did not change her behavior.
The night before his departure, she even made dinner.
She asked Brandon whether he had packed enough clothes.
She made sure he had not forgotten anything.
She wished him a safe trip.
Brandon seemed pleased.
He believed he had kept his lie perfectly intact.
The next day, at the airport, Abigail played the role of the worried wife until the very end.
“I’m going to miss you,” she whispered.
Brandon gently took her hand.
“I’ll come back as soon as I can. This is really all for us.”
Abigail nodded.
At that moment, Brandon’s phone lit up.
He glanced at the screen quickly before turning it over.
Abigail only caught the first letter of the sender’s name.
She didn’t need to ask who it was.
A few minutes later, Brandon kissed her on the forehead.
“Take care of yourself.”
Abigail answered with a faint smile.
“You too.”
Then he passed through security.
She watched him disappear behind the glass doors.
For a few seconds, she stood perfectly still.
Then her expression changed completely.
She wiped her eyes, straightened her shoulders, and took out her phone.
A new message was waiting for her.
The investigator confirmed that Clarissa had been spotted in the same terminal and appeared to be preparing for the same trip.
Abigail replied with only one sentence:
“Continue documenting everything that can be legally verified.”
Then she looked at the time.
Her appointment at the bank was less than two hours away.
Her lawyer was scheduled to see her immediately afterward.
This time, she was not going to wait for Brandon’s explanations.
She was going to protect what belonged to her and carefully review every authorization connected to her company.
As she got into a taxi, her phone vibrated again.
It was Brandon.
“I already miss you. Be strong.”
Abigail stared at the message for a few seconds.
Then, for the first time in days, she smiled sincerely.
Brandon still had no idea that certain financial authorizations were about to be reviewed.
He also didn’t realize that his departure had not left Abigail devastated.
It had simply given her time to act.
But a few hours later, when he tried to use certain payment methods and access funds he believed were available, he would understand that something had changed.
And that would be only the beginning.
Because Abigail had discovered that behind the story of this professional trip was something far more complicated than a simple marital betrayal.
And most importantly, she still had no idea why Brandon needed to keep all of it secret.
The next part will reveal what Abigail discovers after her first appointment at the bank.
