Freddie Combs, a beloved contestant on The X Factor known for his powerful voice and inspiring journey, has passed away at the age of 49. His wife, Kay, confirmed that he died on September 10 at a hospital in Florida due to kidney failure.

A minister and talented singer, Combs performed from a wheelchair and had long battled serious health challenges. In 2009, he weighed as much as 920 pounds, but through determination and effort, he managed to reduce his weight to 540 pounds by the time he appeared on the second season of The X Factor USA.

During his audition, Combs delivered a heartfelt rendition of Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings, leaving a lasting impression on both the judges and the audience. Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid were moved by his performance and pledged their support if he continued his journey toward better health.
