The morning began like a dream. Sunlight spread across the shore, gentle waves rolled onto the sand, and the family was finally enjoying a peaceful day together. Their young daughter played nearby while her parents kept an eye on her.
After a while, the father stood up to get a bottle of water. Then he suddenly stopped. A sharp pain shot through his leg, and he reached for the spot where he had felt something bite him.
“What happened?” his wife asked, hurrying over.
“I’m not sure. I think something bit me,” he replied.
At first, they assumed it was a minor bite. But within minutes, his leg began to swell. He tried to take a few steps, only for the pain to worsen. Soon, he had to lean on his wife for support.
Their daughter came closer, confused by the sight of her father struggling to stand.
“Daddy, please get up,” she said anxiously.
People nearby noticed that his condition was getting worse. One person called for emergency help, while others cleared a space so he could sit down. His wife held his hand and tried to reassure him, though she could barely hide her own worry.
The paramedics arrived shortly afterward. After quickly assessing him, they decided to take him to the hospital. His wife followed in the car with their daughter, wondering what had bitten him.
At the hospital, doctors began examining him right away. His wife waited near the emergency department, with their daughter sitting quietly beside her. The little girl still hoped her father would soon come out and tell her everything was all right.
The minutes seemed to stretch on. When a doctor finally came to speak with them, the woman’s expression changed at once.
“His condition is stable for now,” the doctor said. “But he had a strong reaction after the bite. We’re still trying to find out what caused it.”
She asked whether the danger had passed, but the doctor paused before answering.
“He’ll remain under observation for now. We need to run more tests to understand what triggered the reaction.”
The woman gently squeezed her daughter’s hand. In just a few minutes, their relaxing day had turned into an anxious wait, and the most important question was still unanswered: What had happened on the beach?
