PART 2
The silver locket nearly slipped from my hands.
In an instant, every memory I had tried to bury over the past five years came rushing back.
The woman smiling in that tiny photograph was Emma Collins.
The only person who had ever loved me before she knew my name, my company, or the fortune I had built.
Then I looked at the two little boys sitting in front of me.
Their eyes.
Their expressions.
Every small detail suddenly felt familiar.
A thought I couldn’t ignore crossed my mind.
Could they be… my sons?
I took a deep breath before asking softly,
“Where’s your mom?”
Liam lowered his head without saying a word.
Lucas slowly opened his backpack and pulled out a carefully folded envelope, its edges worn as if he had carried it everywhere for days.
“Mom said you should only read this after you found us,” he whispered.
I recognized Emma’s handwriting immediately.
My hands trembled as I unfolded the letter.
Jason, if you’re reading this, it means I couldn’t come with them. I never wanted our boys to grow up with questions no one could answer. Life forced me to make difficult choices, but I never stopped believing you deserved to know the truth. If they’ve reached you, I ask only one thing—stay with them. They’ll need you more than you can imagine. Please take care of them until I can return.
The words blurred before my eyes.
I hadn’t even finished reading when my office door burst open.
Claire rushed inside.
Her face was paler than I had ever seen it.
“Mr. Miller… there are two men downstairs asking if two little boys came here this morning. They insist on seeing you immediately.”
The room fell silent.
Lucas quietly climbed down from his chair.
Without saying a word, he walked over and slipped his small hand into mine.
“Mom said that if we ever found you… you’d know how to keep us safe.”
I looked at the boys.
Whatever they had been through had forced them to grow up far too soon.
And somehow…
They already trusted me.
In that moment, something inside me changed forever.
For years, I had devoted my life to building a company, protecting my business, and making the right decisions.
But for the first time, I understood that some responsibilities mattered far more than success or money.
I looked at Claire.
“Don’t let anyone come to this floor until I say so.”
She nodded without asking a single question.
Then I turned back to the boys.
“Come with me.”
They exchanged a quick glance before following me.
I still didn’t know why fate had brought them to my office.
But I knew one thing with absolute certainty.
I would never let them face the world alone again.
