Part 3: The Evidence That Changed Everything
Ryan walked into the virtual board meeting determined to regain control. He straightened his tie, forced a confident smile, and greeted everyone as if nothing unusual had happened.
“There’s clearly been some kind of misunderstanding,” he said smoothly.
My attorney, Victoria Cross, didn’t even blink.
“You’re right,” she replied. “The misunderstanding is that you believed nobody would ever uncover what you’ve been doing.”
The first file appeared on the screen.
Then another.
And another.
Each document revealed a different piece of a puzzle Ryan had spent years trying to keep hidden. There were suspicious consulting contracts, duplicate expense claims, unexplained transfers, and company funds routed through businesses linked to Lorraine’s relatives.
The room grew quieter with every page.
The forensic accountant began presenting transaction timelines, showing how money had quietly moved through multiple accounts before ending up in places it never should have gone.
Ryan’s confident expression slowly disappeared.
By the time the presentation reached its midpoint, he wasn’t arguing anymore.
He was listening.
And sweating.
Then my phone rang.
Lorraine.
Without hesitation, I answered and activated the speaker.
The moment the call connected, her voice exploded through the conference room.
“You selfish little snake!” she yelled. “How dare you embarrass my son like this?”
Several people on the call exchanged glances.
Victoria calmly leaned toward her microphone.
“Mrs. Whitmore, this conversation is being recorded. I strongly recommend that you choose your next words very carefully.”
For a brief second, silence filled the line.
It was the first time anyone had ever warned Lorraine that her actions might finally have consequences.
Unfortunately for her, the warning came far too late.
Because while she was busy attacking me, another document had just appeared on every screen in the meeting.
It contained years of financial records.
And her name was all over them.
Vacation expenses.
Luxury purchases.
Vehicle payments.
Private loans.
Even renovations to her home.
All funded through accounts that investigators were now examining one transaction at a time.
The color drained from Ryan’s face.
“Mom…” he whispered.
But Lorraine had already realized the truth.
This wasn’t an argument anymore.
It wasn’t family drama.
It was evidence.
And evidence doesn’t care who wins the shouting match.
For years, Ryan and Lorraine believed they were untouchable.
Now they were watching their entire story collapse in real time.
And the worst part?
The board had only reached the beginning of the file.
